At the Adair County Republican Convention on March 8th Matt Wedemeyer, of rural Casey, announced his candidacy for the position of Adair County’s district one supervisor. Matt, a life long resident of Adair County, is the son of Doug and Judy Wedemeyer; and currently lives on a farm south of Casey. He is a 2003 graduate of Adair-Casey High School and a holds a degree from Southwestern Community College in Business Administration.

In 2004 Matt retuned to Adair County to participate in his family’s farm operation, making him a Sixth Generation Iowa farmer. That same year Matt began selling real estate for Wedemeyer Auction and Realty where he specializes in Residential and Agricultural properties. In 2006 he was elected to serve as Walnut Township’s Clerk. In this capacity he oversees the receipts and disbursements of tax dollars to maintain Walnut Township’s infrastructure.

Matt was urged at an early age to give back to his community, whether it be through employment, community events, or volunteering to help those in need. Matt currently serves his community through positions in the Casey Service Club and the Casey Historical Society. In these organizations he enjoys planning and contributing to local celebrations and events which help to improve the well being and moral of the community. Matt is also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Adair County Farm Bureau, Adair and Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, and is involved with the Coalition to

 

Support Iowa’s Farmers.

Areas of concern for Matt include Adair County’s roads, bridges, and economic development. “Nearly 30,000 vehicles pass through our county everyday and hundreds of residents leave the county for work. We need to find a way to attract new businesses to our area to ensure the stability of our infrastructure and lifestyle for futuregenerations.” If elected to this position Matt will dedicate himself to the improvement of Adair County through new development and the implementation of new technology. “I look forward to getting to know and listening to the concerns of the residents of district one. On April 5, 2008 Matt attended a Legislative Coffee in Greenfield, Iowa. State Representative Clel Baudler and State Senator Nancy Boettger we there to discuss local, state, and national issues that have effected this years session. Many local citizens attended to speak about issues that have been affecting them. These issues ranged from interest rates on Iowa student loans to a discussion on increasing the gas tax. Also mentioned was the possible ban on smoking in public areas and expansion of the can and bottle bill. “I felt that everyone left with new knowledge and a better understanding of the legislative process by which we live”, stated Wedemeyer. This was the last Legislative Coffee for this session.
